Barcelona has an Urban Mobility Plan for the period 2013-2018, with the following objectives:Sustainable, equitable, safe, efficient
THE PROJECT
• Installation of 500 sensors in different parking areas
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
• Reduction of CO2 emission
• Reduction of traffic
• Increase of drivers’ satisfaction
• Improvement on the operation
SOME RELEVANT RESULTS OF THE PROJECT
• Reliability of the system for private car parking - 92%
• Reliability of the system for load/unload areas - 70%
• Validation with historical data +/- 8%
• Among the cars parking less than 10 min, only 4 % pays
CONCLUSIONS
Operation perspective
• Valuable information in terms of occupation/rotation
• Sensors provide relevant information but constant - better to use mobile sensor
Governance perspective
• Very useful tool to identify available parking area
• Green areas - high occupation and low rotation. Not high added value of the information
• Blue areas - high demand, high occupation and high rotation. High added value to drivers
• Load/Unload - the system doesn’t provide accurate results about occupation
Financial perspective
• Taking into account the high reliability of the system in the private car parking area, with only 20-30% of sensors we could obtain useful information
• Sensors only in Blue areas (high rotation, demand and occupation)
• Installation of sensors only in large sectors (over 40 parkings)
• To be considered in reserved areas (disabled, fords, taxis, …) the sensors could inform immediately of illegal occupation
