For the first time, the Smart City Summit & Expo (SCSE) has expanded to Europe with its special edition, SCSE on the Road: Europe. On October 19th, a Taiwanese delegation of eleven companies led by the Taipei Computer Association (TCA) embarked on a week-long mission to Madrid, Spain, and Région Sud, France, fostering strategic partnerships and signing MoUs with the Madrid Chamber of Commerce and the City of Las Rozas de Madrid.
TCA’s Collaborative Role with Industry Associations
In response to global supply chain shifts, European stakeholders are increasingly seeking reliable partners. To meet this demand, TCA’s delegation, featuring leaders like ASUS, Chunghwa Telecom, and Synology, demonstrated Taiwan’s ICT innovations. In Madrid, TCA collaborated with the Madrid Chamber of Commerce to host the 2nd Spain-Taiwan Smart City Summit, with chamber chairman Mr. Ángel Asensio and top Spanish corporations such as Iberdrola and Telefónica in attendance. Mr. Asensio highlighted Taiwan’s technological strengths, noting that it accounts for 46% of the global AI semiconductor manufacturing capacity. The summit concluded with the signing of a MoU, underscoring a mutual commitment to advancing digital transformation and sustainability. During their stay, the delegation also toured the Empresa Municipal de Transportes de Madrid (EMT) and Telefónica’s headquarters.
TCA’s Collaborative Role with Cities
Las Rozas Mayor Jose de la Uz welcomed the Taiwanese delegation on October 22nd, expressing the city’s ambition to strengthen its smart and connected infrastructure. Las Rozas, one of Spain’s wealthiest cities and a member of the Spanish Smart City Alliance (RECI), signed an MoU with TCA to further its smart city initiatives. "With the Taipei Computer Association, we continue to work in networks so Las Rozas grows as a smart and connected city," Mayor de la Uz remarked.
The trip also marked the debut of SCSE Nîmes, co-hosted by Nîmes Métropole, which has implemented several smart city projects, including a 5G network and a flood detection Hypervisor Center. Nîmes Métropole President Franck Proust reflected on his recent visit to Taipei, where he explored Taiwanese technologies in transport, video surveillance, and flood monitoring. The forum in Nîmes, attended by 160 industry leaders, featured keynotes and panel discussions with major players like Orange, EDF, and SUEZ.
Taiwan’s Smart Solutions Abroad
The Taiwanese delegation explored opportunities in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in collaboration with rising SUD, focusing on regional innovation and smart port initiatives. As the largest Taiwanese delegation to visit the Mediterranean Basin, participants like ASUS, Chunghwa Telecom, Synology, eTreego, and Master Transportation showcased Taiwan’s smart city expertise and paved the way for future partnerships across Europe.
Looking ahead, SCSE 2025 will be held in Taipei from March 18th to 22nd, highlighting innovations in 5G, AIoT, and urban resilience, and welcoming global stakeholders to explore Taiwan’s leading smart city solutions.
