Smart City Summit & Expo: AI 50 Campaign Continues to Drive AI Industrialization

In response to the theme of the Smart City Summit & Expo(SCSE) "AIoT Invigorates Smart City”, every year the organizer presents the AI 50 Campaign, selecting innovative AI application cases in the field of smart city around the world, expecting to accelerate the integration and application of AI and IoT through this event.

In 2020, a total of 67 applications from 13 countries were received, and 47 companies were selected. Companies from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, and Taiwan have undoubtedly brought radiant results in their displays of AI applications in areas including smart healthcare, smart transportation, and other smart city fields.

Scheduled to be featured in SCSE, the campaign was transformed into a series of online events due to the impact of the pandemic. Started from July 2020, the online pavilion of AI 50 was established on the Smart City Online, providing the portal for audience to get the access to the 2020 AI 50 winners, whether to browse the details of their services, watch their presentation livestreams, or initiate matchmaking sessions. The “Inno-Con” forum series featuring the winners have also been converted online: 3 sessions featuring 12 speakers, with topics on life-changing, cutting-edge and healthcare, were premiered in October 2020. It aims to encourage and drive more new entrepreneurs to use AIoT technologies in smart city applications.

In AI 50 Pavilion, for instance, Turing Drive, the company that develops autonomous driving systems and applications using deep learning technologies, has showcased multiple projects with their specialty of wide ranging autonomous driving kit; and OmniEyes, using edge + cloud AI technologies, demonstrated their broad services in fleet management, maps service/applications and smart city management.

The healthcare applications in 2020’s campaign were also astounding. FaceHeart exhibited cases including a health monitoring solution much needed for the post-pandemic world; and CLOUDMED’s iCare measures 8 important physiological information and allows personal health management through cloud service. On top of the display, more companies have also presented in the Inno-Con Series #healthcare and shared what their solutions and services bring to the industry.

As the 2021 Smart City Summit & Expo approaches, AI 50 Campaign seeks to continue driving the AI Industrialization in smart cities. The campaign is now calling for startups to send in their applications, granting all selected startups rewards of free opportunity to display in the expo and speak in the session of Inno-Con Series. The application will close at the end of January, 2021. For more information please download the AI 50 Application Kit on the official website http://en.smartcity.org.tw.
